Shooting Irish Lacrosse Club (SILC)
Our club is in its 8th year of teaching, promoting and spreading the love of lacrosse to the youth of York County. This past year we adopted girls’ lacrosse into our program.
This past season we had U9, U11, U13 and U15 boys’ teams and a middle school girls’ team. We are proud to have provided the foundation for most of the boys on the Inaugural York Catholic High School team in the spring of 2009.
Here are some things to know about being a member of SILC:
· We offer teams for boys primarily in Kindergarten through 8th grade.
· We offer teams for girls in 2nd through 8th grade.
· Our players primarily attend one of the Catholic elementary schools in York County or York Catholic middle school.
· We are a volunteer-based program and encourage parent involvement.
· We have an informative website www.shootingirishlacrosse.org or you can call our club
President – Beth Brennan at 495-0947.
· We play other York County teams.
· The season of lacrosse runs roughly from March through May with games being held on various days throughout the week. Practice times and locations are determined by the coaches, typically by the end of February.
· We provide the uniform jersey, coaching, and field for the players. Each player must purchase his/her shorts (roughly $25), stick and body equipment. There are locations which sell used equipment. Our club holds a Used- Equipment Sale. Check the website for details.
· Our primary home field is provided by the Winters Performance Products, located on Trolley Road, behind the West Manchester Mall.
· We conduct fundraisers such as our Pancake Breakfast to help keep the cost of registration reasonable and to engage the community in our spirit of Lacrosse!
· We offer clinics during the year to introduce potential players to the sport of lacrosse.
· Each player, coach and board member must be a member of US Lacrosse, which is the national governing body of Men’s and Women’s lacrosse. There is an annual membership fee, which is included in our registration fee.
· We are a member of the York County Lacrosse Association – learn more at www.yorkcountylacrosse.org
· We support the initiatives of the Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) and our coaches and many of our parents are PCA certified. www.positivecoach.org/
· We initiated the Spirit of Irish Lacrosse Award in spring 2009, presenting it to the YCHS lacrosse player who shows and values leadership, commitment and respect, honors the game of lacrosse with spirit and sportsmanship, and gives a 100% day in and out. This player must have played on a Shooting Irish Lacrosse team.
We look forward to getting to know you and your child/children in the new future.
